Thoughts from a Random Mind
“The question of whether divorced and remarried people go to heaven is a matter of theological interpretation. While some believe that divorce and remarriage can be considered sin, others emphasize salvation through faith in Christ and God's grace. Ultimately, the decision of who goes to heaven is left to God's judgment.”
Divorce for any reason other than adultery, or some sort of sexual impropriety, makes the act of divorce sinful according to scripture.
Matthew 5: "It has been said, 'Anyone who divorces his wife must give her a certificate of divorce.' But I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, makes her the victim of adultery, and anyone who marries a divorced woman commits adultery".
As children of God we are under His grace or undeserved favor. Therefore, it is said that even the sin of divorce and remarriage is covered by the blood of Christ. Since I feel strongly that the Lord uses me in my writing ministry, I’d have to say that I stand forgiven with no future repercussions to come. I care about this topic because I was divorced by my first two wives and am in my third marriage at the moment, which thankfully is going well after 10 years.
As a child of God it was my understanding that though divorce & remarriage are not God’s ideal for man, we are not cast out because of our family ties, so to speak. So while we, as men, are to strive to have a solid, Christ-centered union with one woman, that isn’t the reality we have arrived at in this secular, ambivalent society we live in. In searching our hearts, the Lord can easily make a judgment based on our motivation. While I was partially at fault in those two marriages, it definitely takes “two to tango”.The question of adultery never came up regarding remarrying, for I confess, I was ignorant of that fact.
After doing some research on this topic, I am comfortable with my current situation and my relationship with the Lord. Be comforted by the fact that God’s grace covers all sin of the believer. The Lord knows us far better than we could ever know ourselves. He knows we make mistakes in judgment prior to & after our conversion, and loves us anyway. Until next time, walk with the King & be a blessing.
